Definition and Understanding of Earlier Archaic Group is forms of Homo Sapiens ssp., that postdate Homo Erectus but antedate AMHs; dates for archaics range from about 400 kya to 32 kya. Arhaics possessed a nearly human-sized brain but retained certain primitive features of the skull such as a lower cranial height and a mosaic of other primitive and derived features. Candidates for the earlier archaic group include Arago, Bilzingsleben, Mauer, Petralona and Vertesszollos; and possibly Kabwe.
